A high [1029 hPa] near New Zealand extends a ridge over the south Queensland waters. The high will move east over the next day or two. A trough will cross the south Queensland waters late on Thursday and during Friday morning. A high [1034 hPa] will linger in the Great Australian Bight or Southern Ocean for several days, extending a new ridge over the south Queensland waters in the wake of the trough and driving a southerly wind surge north along the east coast from Thursday evening.
