- The monsoon trough will persist over the Cape York Peninsula and may drift a little southward over the North Queensland waters north of Cooktown in the coming days. A tropical low (18U) low lies within the monsoon trough near the west Peninsula coast, and will drift southward over the next few days and linger near the southern Gulf coast into next week. A weak ridge will persist over the northern waters south of trough this weekend, before weakening early next week.
