A weak ridge will persist over the east coast for the next few days. Tropical Cyclone Narelle [988 hPa] is moving west over the Gulf of Carpentaria as a category 2 system this morning. Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to intensify to category 3 later today as it moves into Northern Territory waters.
