The combination of a high [1030 hPa] entering the Tasman Sea and a deepening low [999hPa] off the southern Queensland coast is leading to a tight pressure gradient, driving strong to gale force southerly winds and powerful seas across the southern Queensland waters. The low will move away to the east over the weekend, allowing winds and seas to slowly abate.
