A trough is brushing the north coast today and early Friday morning, while a high passing to the south of the state extends a ridge in the wake of the trough, bringing a surge of fresh southerly winds along the coast. Winds will gradually turn easterly on Friday, then northeasterly during the weekend through early next week, as the high enters the Tasman Sea and maintains a ridge across the coastal waters.
