A broad low pressure trough lies over northern Victoria, expected to linger over northern parts and extend over Gippsland in the coming days, as a high pressure system lies to the south over Tasmania. By early Thursday this trough will begin to develop into a broad low pressure system over the east of the state before moving offshore the NSW coast on Friday. A south to southeasterly airstream with strengthen over the state as a result of this low and a high pressure system moving to the south of Tasmania on Friday.
