A weak cold front is approaching the state from the west today, and cross Tasmania during early Friday, followed by a high pressure ridge extending over Bass Strait from a high centred well to the west. During Saturday the ridge is forecast to move broadly over the state as the high centre approaches the west coast and moves over Tasmania on Sunday.
