A high pressure ridge extends over the state's north, while a trough is moving up the southern and central parts of the coast, reaching Sydney Waters as a southerly change early Wednesday. Winds will turn northerly late Wednesday through to Thursday as the trough weakens and another ridge drifts across the coastal waters. Then, a strong cold front is forecast to moves across Sydney Waters during the weekend, with a fresh southerly wind change in its wake.
