South to southeasterly winds along the coast will gradually turn northeasterly today as a trough near the north coast weakens while a slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the coastal waters. North to northeasterly winds will continue freshening mid to late this week as the high strengthens. Then, a cold front and its associated trough looks set to brush the coast during the weekend, bringing a fresh to strong southerly wind change in their wake.
