Westerly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots in the late afternoon then becoming southerly 15 to 25 knots in the evening. Winds reaching up to 30 knots in the evening.

Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres south of Port Stephens later in the evening.

Southerly 1 to 1.5 metres inshore, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore later in the evening.

Sunny day. 70% chance of showers this evening. The chance of a thunderstorm late this afternoon and evening, possibly severe with large hail south of Norah Head.

Weather Situation

A high pressure system is extending a ridge over the northern waters while a cold front and its associated trough approach from south. A southerly change is forecast for Friday as the front moves north along the coast reaching the northern border early Saturday morning. In the wake of this, the high pressure moves east, reaching the southern Tasman Sea by Sunday and bringing settled weather. This system is then expected to become slow-moving for several days.
