West to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning southwesterly 20 to 25 knots in the early afternoon. Winds reaching up to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening.

Southerly around 1 metre, tending southwesterly 1 to 2 metres during the afternoon, then tending south to southwesterly 2 to 3 metres later in the evening.

Partly cloudy. 50% chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm offshore south of Norah Head late this afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation

A strong cold front is forecast to cross the state today, with strong to gale-force west to southwesterly winds in its wake. Winds will then turn southerly and gradually ease from later Friday through the weekend as the front moves further offshore while a strong high-pressure system moves over the Bight and extends a ridge over the coastal waters. Winds will then become onshore easterly early next week as the high slowly drifts eastwards.
