A broad high pressure ridge extends across the state while a cold front crossing the eastern areas on Wednesday, with showers and fresh to strong southerly winds along the coast in its wake. Winds will gradually ease later in the week, then turn east to northeasterly as a high pressure system traverses the state's south and enters the Tasman Sea by the weekend.
