A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is extending ridge across the northern coastal waters while drifting eastwards, bringing a north to northwesterly airstream today. Winds will freshen as a cold front approaches from the west, before turning westerly on Saturday following its passage. From late Saturday or Sunday, winds will turn southerly as a second cold front brushes the coast.
