- A strong high pressure system over Tasmania and a low pressure system moving over New Zealand will continue to drive fresh to strong southerly winds and large, powerful waves to the coastal areas today. Then, the high will enter the Tasman Sea on Thursday, maintaining a ridge over the southern half of the coast while a weak trough develops off the northern half of the coast. Winds will gradually turn northerly during the weekend as the ridge extends over the northern coastal waters.
