A high pressure system is drifting across southeast Australia, while a low lingers offshore over the Tasman Sea whipping fresh to strong southerly winds and large powerful waves to the Sydney Waters. Winds will generally turn east to northeasterly as the low moves eastwards and a ridge builds over the coastal waters from late Saturday. A trough off the coast may develop early next week.
