Winds will gradually turn northerly as a high pressure system drifts across the state, entering the Tasman Sea by Thursday. Northerly winds strengthening by the weekend, with a brief weak southerly change expected along the south coast on Friday. Then, a cold front will cross the state during the weekend, bringing a fresh to strong southerly wind change over coastal waters in its wake.
