Tropical Cyclone Fina is expected to remain a category four system Sunday night and Monday morning. ()

Tropical Cyclone Fina remains a category 4 system and is expected to weaken quickly before impacting the north-east Kimberley coast, Western Australia on Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says the destructive core of the cyclone is now located well off the west Top End coast.

Fina is forecast to remain a severe tropical cyclone overnight as it moves south-west through the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf.

It is moving south-west at 10 kilometres per hour.

The BOM's latest update shows the cyclone has sustained winds of 165 kilometres per hour near its centre, with wind gusts up to 230 km/h.

At 9.30pm ACST the cyclone was 180 kilometres west south-west of Dundee Beach and 165 kilometres north-east of Berkeley River Mouth.
