Cool and below-average temperatures are forecast across Queensland for the next few days.

Conditions are expected to remain fairly dry, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

"[The forecast] doesn't give us anything too frigid or icy," senior meteorologist Angus Hines said.

"We'll be looking at low 20s for maximum temperatures in the south, mid 20s through central areas, and high 20s to low 30s in the north," he said.

Only a few isolated showers were expected for Friday.

Mr Hayes said there could be showers in the islands around the south-east, including Moreton Island.

"Maybe a shower along the north tropical coast as well, but dry through all other areas," he said.

He said that was likely to change at the weekend.

"We will see a slight enhancement to shower activity across the central and south-east coast," Mr Hayes said.

"We're not looking at a lot of rain — just a couple of millimetres here and there.

"We will see some slightly enhanced falls across the far north — up in the tropics, Cape York Peninsula, North Tropical Coast, maybe a storm or two on Saturday."

Good weather for flowers

Even if the days did not quite have a balmy spring feel, it certainly looked spring in Toowoomba on the Darling Downs.

Visitors have arrived in the region for the month-long Carnival of Flowers.

Ian and Sharon Taylor, along with their dog Bella, braved a single-digit degree morning to see the Garden City in full bloom.

"I love the weather, the flowers love this weather too," Ms Taylor said.

"What's not to love? We've got a blue sky, everything is good."

Skies are set to remain mostly blue across the weekend on the Darling Downs.

Gusts that reached up to 70 kilometres per hour across the wider south-east on Thursday have eased.

However, the bureau issued a high fire danger rating for parts of the north-west and Gulf Country for Friday and Saturday.

"A little bit of wind there, dry, sunny conditions, temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s. That's enough to push us into those high fire danger ratings for those western districts," Mr Hines said.

"But across the rest of the state it's looking to sit pretty steady with just the moderate fire danger for now.

"I think it's unlikely we'll see warnings over the weekend.

"If they were to happen, the most likely place would be up in the far north, with a few storms developing."
