Major Flood Warning for the Georgina River and Eyre Creek
Issued at 2:50 PM AEST on Tuesday 3 Mar 2026.
Flood Warning Number: 48
MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE
MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT MARION DOWNS WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK EXPECTED FROM FRIDAY
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENGYLE FROM LATE WEDNESDAY
Significant rainfall was observed across the Georgina River and Eyre Creek catchments during last week, with significant river level rises occurring. Along the Upper Georgina River, major flood peaks have passed Roxborough and are approaching Glenormiston, while a moderate flood peak was observed early Monday morning along the Burke River at Boulia. These flows, in addition to initial inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused initial rises leading to major flooding at Marion Downs, where the main flood peak is expected from around Friday as upstream floodwaters continue to arrive.
Further downstream along Eyre Creek, inflows from King Creek and neighbouring tributaries have caused initial rises ahead of the main upper Georgina flood peak. Major flooding is occurring at Bedourie, with further rises expected as upstream flows arrive. Downstream at Glengyle, major flooding may develop from late Wednesday. Significant renewed rises are expected in the coming weeks at Bedourie and Glengyle as floodwaters arrive from the upper catchment.
Additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation remain possible across the catchment as floodwaters move downstream. Road access is likely to be affected, and communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
