The weather bureau says residents in south-east Queensland can expect rainy and cool conditions for Valentine's Day, after the region avoided the worst of predicted falls.

Temperatures across the south-east could drop as low as 10 degrees below average while light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue throughout the weekend.

Senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy said regions north and south of Brisbane received the majority of the rainfall.

"Up towards Hervey Bay, that's where we saw the focus during yesterday evening, that's where we saw falls well in excess of 100mm and in a short duration," he said.

Two-day rainfall totals in excess of 200mm were recorded along the border regions as well, he said.

'Blustery' and 'patchy' rain is expected for the south-east on Saturday, Mr Hanniffy said.

"No heavy rainfall expected today, in fact probably the peak of the rainfall has passed."

Mr Hanniffy said the south-east was not "out of the woods" yet with totals of up to 50mm expected tomorrow, before the weather eases into next week.

While milder temperatures are forecast for the remainder of the weekend, Mr Hanniffy said the reprieve would only be temporary.

"We should see that cloud break up so temperatures recovering again and warmer from the middle of next week. We should see temperatures getting up into the 30s once again through the second half of the week."

Flood rescues

Multiple people have been rescued in the Fraser Coast and North Burnett region after becoming trapped in floodwater.

Police said a 63-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man were rescued from floodwaters on Gooroolba Biggenden Road around 7:15pm last night.

Three people were also rescued just before 11pm after a 56-year-old woman became trapped in her vehicle on Booral Road, north of Maryborough.

Two people who attempted to help her also became trapped and had to be rescued by emergency services.

Police have reminded motorists not to drive through floodwaters.

A flood watch remains in place for the Wide Bay and Burnett and Central inland catchments.

The bureau has warned that heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding, including over densely populated areas.
