Homicide squad takes over shooting investigation
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will now lead an investigation into the death of a man who was shot following a police pursuit on the Central Coast.
It began after a police car was rammed by another car at about 10:20am on Wednesday in The Entrance.
Initial reports suggested shots were fired by both the 30-year-old man who ran from the car, and by a police officer.
The man suffered a wound to his neck.
Two firearms have been seized for forensic and ballistic testing and a post-mortem will determine whether it was a police shooting or self-harm.
Thunderstorm asthma warning
Asthma sufferers are being urged to stay indoors during the windy weather this storm season.
Health authorities have issues alerts for people with respiratory conditions in the state's south and north-west where strong winds are also forecast.
Asthma Australia's Michelle Goldman said it was critical people were prepared for storm season, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
"Often there are very common symptoms between asthma, hayfever and COVID, so it is even more important … than ever to be proactive in managing your asthma and hayfever."
Police employee charged
A police employee has been charged with indecency and carrying out a sexual act without consent.
Police said the civilian employee allegedly committed three acts of indecency and sexual acts between November 2018 and December 2019.
The 59-year-old man has been suspended from duty and will face court in December.
A civilian employee is a non-sworn police officer, and can include crime analysts, communications officers, command and dispatch roles and human resources.
Child hit by car
A child is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Sydney's south.
Police said the 12-year-old boy was riding a bike when he was hit by a car in Gymea late yesterday afternoon.
He was taken to Sydney's Children's Hospital with head injuries.
The 32-year-old driver returned a negative breath test and police are investigating.
Pop-up COVID-19 clinic in Bathurst
Health chiefs in western NSW say they are confident they will be able to keep on top of any potential COVID-19 outbreak in the central west.
A trace of the coronavirus was found in a sewage sample taken in Bathurst on Monday and hundreds of people have attended a mobile COVID-19 clinic there.
Residents and visitors to last weekend's Bathurst 1000 have been urged to get tested, but no positive cases have yet been linked to the event.
The Director of Public Health at the Western Local Health District Priscilla Stanley said authorities had a "slight increase in concern" but were confident they had the right systems in place to respond.
Funeral industry under spotlight
A tribunal says it had heard concerns that consumers may have been "upsold" more expensive funeral packages.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) launched a review into costs, pricing and competition within the NSW funeral industry
It said there were wide variations in prices for basic packages and it would review whether the prices being paid reflected the underlying costs of services.
The IPART said the review followed investigations on the funeral industry by the ABC's Four Corners program and Choice.
