Severe Weather Warning

POWERFUL SEAS TONIGHT
A complex low pressure system lies near New Zealand, while a high is situated over southeast Australia. This pattern is generating vigorous winds over Lord Howe Island, accompanied by very rough seas and a heavy southerly swell.
DAMAGING SURF CONDITIONS, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, may cause significant coastal erosion to southern-facing areas today. Open waters around the island may experience significant wave heights over 6 metres. These conditions are also hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing.
Damaging surf is expected to ease to below 5 metres later tonight or early Monday, but hazardous surf conditions will continue through Monday.
The NSW State Emergency Service advise you:
- Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items.
- Stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.
