Super moon rises

Last night stargazers across NSW were treated to the spectacular sight of a super moon.

Many headed outside around 9.40pm last night to look upwards and were not disappointed.

The moon appeared much brighter and larger, as it had reached its full phase at its closest point to the earth.

Alleged thief falls through roof

Police say a man has been seriously hurt after falling through the roof of a JB Hi-Fi store in Sydney's north-west during an alleged break-in.

Two men allegedly entered the Rouse Hill store about 3.00am by climbing through a roof cavity, police said.

A 29-year-old man fell through the roof after police arrived and he has been taken under police guard to hospital in a serious condition.

Police are still searching for the other man.

Old speech comes back to haunt

There were some awkward moments when Opposition Leader Michael Daley struggled to remember education figures last night in a debate against Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

On the NSW election campaign trail — a recording emerged of a 2015 speech made by Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, in which he said governments spent too much money on climate change policies.

In his speech for the Centre of Independent Studies, a right-wing think tank, Mr Perrottet the then-Finance Minister said an "example of gratuitous waste" was "the almost religious devotion of the left to climate change".

He yesterday stood by the comments, but also re-affirmed his belief in climate science. He also defended his government's action on the climate.

ANALYSIS:

This week has proven that in the modern era of smartphones and uploads, it's easier than ever for political parties to dredge up things that happened in the past to damage their opponents.

That's only going to become more of an issue when parliaments start filling up with MPs drawn from the Instagram generation, who've probably documented some pretty ill-advised moments on social media.

With both sides of politics constantly trawling for any material that will give them an edge, young people with political aspirations should probably think twice about every post.

Tennis NSW's child sex abuse crisis

The Tennis NSW board is in the grip of a civil war as eight elders of the sport face losing their life memberships over their role in the treatment of a child who complained about sexual abuse.

The allegations, first raised in the 1990s, centre around a 15-year-old girl who said she was sexually abused by a coach.

The ABC can reveal a retired judge is conducting a confidential hearing to break the impasse with a decision expected next month.

What's the best political announcement of the state election campaign?

On Radio Sydney Drive yesterday evening, Richard Glover threw to that day's party political announcement.

One problem: there wasn't one scheduled. The immediate result was 30 seconds of radio silence.

Secondary result: a flurry of emails and texts from listeners.

From Richard: "Was that the Cleaver Greene Party — doesn't stand for anything?"

From Chris of Carss Park: "Was that the Zen Party? Made more sense than the others."

And from Justin of Earlwood: "That was the best political ad I've ever heard — I'm voting for them."

Richard, who made the mistake, understood the viewpoint: "I found myself unable to disagree with a single one of their polices."
