Power has been restored to thousands of Tasmanian homes in the wake of damaging winds sweeping across the state.
TasNetworks crews were out early working to fix outages affecting almost 3,000 properties.
Fallen trees caused outages in the Hobart suburbs of Sandy Bay and Taroona, while power cuts at Berriedale-Claremont were due to severe weather conditions.
Outages in Kingston, Zeehan and Granville Harbour on the state's west coast were being investigated.
Power line damage caused outages at Tarraleah and in the Eggs and Bacon Bay region.
By early afternoon, power had been restored to all but 500 properties.
Another windy night ahead
Senior forecaster Dave Matthews said the wild weather was being caused by a strong low pressure system crossing the south of the state.
"It's generating some very strong winds ahead of that front," he said.
Mr Matthews said the winds would ease up during the day but pick up again tonight to about 60-70kph with gusts hitting 80-90kph.
He said the front was moving from the south-west of the state up to the north-east and warned of another blowy night ahead.
"It's going to be another windy night, I don't think it's going to be quite as windy as it was last night but certainly windy none the less," he said.
Home maintenance to limit damage
The Bureau of Meteorology has a severe weather warning in place for residents in the Furneaux Islands, Derwent Valley, south-east, north-east, east coast, Central Highlands and parts of north-west coast.
Winds overnight were expected to average 60-70 kilometres per hour during the night with peak gusts of up to 110kph.
SES northern regional manager Mhairi Revie said residents who need help should contact them.
"We have got our crews on standby," she said.
"[We have] a large contingent of volunteers across the north-west and the north, and those volunteers are ready to assist the public if need be."
Ms Revie said some basic home maintenance could help prevent property damage.
"Basically, people need to do some home maintenance so that they can prevent disaster — things like blocked gutters, blocked drains and so forth, even tree branches that are loose and old can cause a lot of damage and basic home maintenance can help with that."ABC
