Swift water rescue teams in Mackay have been called out at least five times after more than 200 millimetres of rain fell in the past 24 hours.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) area commander Mat McFarlane said three travellers got into trouble today when their car was swamped at North Eton before 9:00am.

Two men managed to get to safety and another was rescued from the roof of the vehicle.

"At this time of the year when we get this much rain the rivers do flow fairly fast and it's very hard to pick whether they're flowing fast or not at the time," Mr McFarlane said.

He said the situation could have been a lot worse.

"It gets frustrating considering it's the same sort of scenarios all the time with people trying to get across floodwater and misjudging what it's like," he said.

Fire fighters also rescued three people in a car that drove through flood waters in a street south-west of Townsville about 10:00am.

Queensland Police Constable Matt Cameron-Lyon said the incident at Oak Valley could have been avoided.

"People are neglecting to remember, if it's flooded, forget it," he said.

"Who knows what would have been coming down that waterway.

"There could have been other debris or the road could have been washed away."

QFES crews eventually pushed the car out of the water.

This morning's incidents followed the earlier rescues of four people in the Mackay region.

Police said a man and woman became stuck about 1:00am on Monday when their car stalled in floodwaters at Windmill Crossing in Mount Pleasant.

On Saturday night, two people were rescued by swift water crews after their car was swept away at West Plane Creek Road near Sarina.
