Truck rollover on M4

A truck carrying dry dog food is expected to cause traffic delays after rolling over on a busy road during morning peak hour.

One southbound lane of Mamre Road, off the ramp on the M4 at St Clair, is closed and will be for some time after the semi-trailer tipped over around 5:30am.

The driver escaped without injury and was interviewed by police.

Three charged with murder over stabbing death

Two men and a woman have been charged over the death of a man in Cartwright, in Sydney's south-west, last month.

On September 25, emergency services were called to a laneway after reports a man had been stabbed — he was treated at the scene but was unable to be revived.

An investigation by NSW Police had led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man, a 37-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman in the Fairfield and Liverpool areas.

The three were refused bail and are expected to appear in Liverpool Local Court today.

Carp caught in Menindee mass fish kill event

Filmmakers have confirmed the main species hit at the centre of a mass fish kill event in western NSW was the invasive European carp.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries has been attempting to verifying aerial footage of an apparent mass fish kill at the remote location of Lake Pamamaroo, in the Menindee Lakes System, near Broken Hill.

Filmmakers Rory McLeod and Peter Yates travelled to the dried-up lake and told the ABC the affected species were about "99 per cent European carp", which appeared to have been dead for weeks.

"It was an intense experience and such intense carnage," Mr Yates said.

It follows warnings by the NSW Government that predicted high temperatures and low water levels were set to create a "fish Armageddon" this summer.

Total fire bans in place

Total fire bans are in place across much of northern NSW, where hot and windy conditions are forecast.

The fire danger is severe for the Far North Coast, North Coast, Greater Hunter, New England, Northern Slopes and North Western regions.

Last week, 64 homes were destroyed in fires that ripped through the state's north.

The Rural Fire Service is urging residents to remain vigilant in temperatures reaching the low 30s, with winds predicted of up to 70 kilometres per hour.

HSC exams begin

Higher School Certificate examinations begin today, amid fresh calls to overhaul the way university entrance ranks are determined.

A new report from the Gonski Institute for Education at the University of New South Wales found most people thought students' abilities outside the exams should form part of their ranking.

NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said she was open to ideas about improving the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) system.

"I think we can have discussions about how it can be improved but also discussions should be about what we look at in addition to ATAR," she said.
