A brief storm has brought hail and rain to parts of south-east Queensland, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) saying more wet weather is likely this afternoon and tonight.

There have been reports of pea-sized hail in southern Brisbane, Logan and further west around Toowoomba in the Darling Downs.

Some areas affected included Monto, Clifton, Dalby, Springwood, Coopers Plains, Heathwood and Forest Lake.

There have been no reports of damage.

There were falls of 14.6 millimetres recorded at Canungra, west of the Gold Coast, 19mm at Coolangatta and 5.2mm in Toowoomba.

BOM meteorologist Jess Gardner said heavier falls were expected further east overnight and into Saturday.

She said areas of the Sunshine Coast had recorded up to 28mm, while further north Gladstone had recorded 36mm, with falls of 31mm at Proserpine.

Graham Burgess, who lives at Mount Perry in the North Burnett, told the ABC he saw hail everywhere.

"The storm just came up from nowhere and next thing we just had hail pelting down," he said.

"It covered the yard all white, filled our gutters full of hail and all the gutters flowed over everywhere and we had water into the house from that."

The weather event was short and sharp, and the BOM cancelled its storm warning for the south-east before 3:00pm, however another rain front swept eastwards from the Sunshine Coast to the Queensland border around 4:00pm.
