Dust storms are blowing across parts of South Australia as more severe weather crosses the state, prompting warning messages from emergency services.

Damaging wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour are forecast ahead of a vigorous cold front reaching Adelaide this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a new severe weather warning at 4:12pm for seven of the state's districts, including Adelaide, the Mount Lofty Ranges, the Yorke Peninsula and the Murraylands.

It is forecasting areas of raised dust and gusty thunderstorms.

"A broad area of eastern Eyre Peninsula has a dust storm at the moment," duty forecaster Sam Slattery said earlier today.

"An extensive band of thunderstorms [stretching] back over Eyre Peninsula all the way up to Coober Pedy … has since moved over Yorke Peninsula and died out a little bit, but we can still see a thunderstorm south of Kangaroo Island.

"We've had a gust to 91kph at Cleve. We've also gusts around 80kph at Kadina and Port Lincoln."

There have been reports of dust storms over eastern Eyre Peninsula.

SA Police tweeted a photo of reduced visibility on the road between Arno Bay and Cowell.

They have advised drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

The State Emergency Service is also warning of the likelihood of fallen trees on parked cars and buildings.

The bureau is forecasting a wind change will also reach Adelaide during the afternoon, bringing cooler conditions.

"Expecting a lot of wind ahead of that, lots of north to north-westerly winds. It will bring the temperatures down in the aftermath," Ms Slattery said.

"Conditions will ease shortly after the front, maybe by about 6:00pm."

The State Emergency Service said the weather had not caused much damage to property so far, but the situation would be monitored.

There have been 11 callouts across the state on Friday.

The weather has caused striking cloud formations, with many taking to social media to post photos and video.

SA Power Networks has urged people to stay clear of fallen powerlines, and to alert authorities if needed.

Earlier this week, storms caused widespread blackouts across the state, knocking out power to more than 35,000 homes and businesses.
