After laying waste to the north Queensland coast, ex-Cyclone Debbie has unleashed a torrent of rain on south-east Queensland, causing flash flooding and putting the region in lockdown.

Large parts of the of the south-east received up to 200 millimetres of rain, more than the average monthly fall, with some areas hit by up to 500mm.

The rain is expected to continue overnight, with north-east New South Wales in the firing line as Debbie moves south.
