Flood warnings are likely to stay in place across Tasmania for several days as rainfall continues, but the worst of the weather has passed, the weather bureau says.

Heavy falls yesterday caused flash flooding in the Huon Valley and Hobart areas, with one family being winched to safety by helicopter.

The SES took almost 70 calls for assistance over 48 hours to Friday afternoon.

Overnight, parts of the north and central west saw significant falls, with Mount Read recording 100 millimetres in the past 24 hours.

Strahan, Sheffield and the Iris River all had totals in excess of 30mm.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster David Matthews said the front would continue to move south-east, where more modest falls will be recorded today.

"We're looking at maybe five or 10mm for the day," he said.

He said while conditions had eased, there would be more rain and a cold front crossing the state next week.

"We expect the westerly winds to dominate the state's weather over the next two to three days, with cold fronts moving through bringing more," he said.

"The next front moves through on Sunday night into Monday morning, bringing some rain across the state, and there's another one on Tuesday."

Flood warnings are in place for a number of rivers across the state.
