Gale force winds have lashed parts of South Australia's south-east as wild weather moves across the state.

The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for most regions, with damaging winds and possible thunderstorms expected to reach Adelaide this afternoon.

Showers are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening across Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Kingscote, Maitland, Strathalbyn, Keith, Naracoorte and Mount Gambier.

Duty forecaster Naomi Benger said winds were forecast to exceed 125 kilometres per hour across the south-east of the state and Kangaroo Island.

"We've seen some strong winds and wind gusts," she said.

"Parndana had a wind gust of 93 kilometres per hour and Mount Gambier has had a wind gust of 91 kilometres per hour, so the warnings we have out are for damaging winds."

Gusts of more than 100 kilometres per hour have been recorded at Neptune Island off Eyre Peninsula in South Australia for the past three days.

State Emergency Service duty officer Robert Charlton said storm damage over the weekend had continued a busy few weeks for emergency volunteer crews.

"It was a very busy weekend for our volunteers, we had a lot of trees down as well as roof damage and minor flooding," he said.

"We had approximately 200 requests for assistance in the last 24 hours ... it was quite widespread across the state."

Ferry services between the mainland and Kangaroo Island, south of Adelaide, were cancelled on Sunday because of high seas and severe winds. Services will be cancelled again this afternoon when the next front is due to hit.

Ben Lacey, who has vineyards just south of Adelaide, said all the recent rain was pleasing.

"What a great start to winter, our 2016 rainfall to date is already up to the total for all of 2015. 320mm since May," he tweeted.
