The big chill has hit Queensland's south-east coast, which was colder this morning than the Granite Belt and Darling Downs.

The mercury plummeted to 0 degrees Celsius at Beaudesert, south of Brisbane, with Coolangatta on the Gold Coast dropping to 3C.

Toowoomba recorded a low of 3C, while Warwick fell to 4C.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michelle Berry said it was colder in some areas on the south-east coast.

"There's actually places on the coast district at the moment that are cooler than the Darling Downs and Granite Belt," she said.

"Applethorpe [on the Granite Belt] only got down to 1.5 degrees because of its cloud cover that occurred and places around the Downs were 3 or 4C, so it's interesting the south-east coast - because of the clear skies - was in fact cooler than the Granite Belt."

There have been reports of sleet on the Granite Belt.

Ms Berry said there was another chance of snow or sleet later in the week.

"There is some chance of that, but it doesn't look that likely again at this stage," she said.

"We will keep an eye on that with that next trough system coming through Friday into Saturday."

Ms Berry said there were more cold mornings ahead for the south-east.

"We're expecting much cooler minimum temperatures Wednesday and Thursday mornings so, I think you're going to feel much chillier through tomorrow morning and into Thursday also," she said.
