Snow has fallen across large parts of NSW, including the Blue Mountains, parts of the NSW Central Tablelands, and in the Barrington Tops National Park near Gloucester.

As a cold trough moves through the region, people have been flocking to catch a glimpse of the snow.

Snow fell on the Barrington Tops for the second year in a row, but it has been a number of years since the last big dump.

Yvonne McBlane travelled to the Barrington from ClarenceTown, north of Newcastle.

"I was confident in my husband's driving and if you take care and you don't rush it should be right," she said.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said snow had fallen in Orange, Oberon, Katoomba, Lithgow and Mount Kaputar, and more was forecast.

Don Stafford, from Yetholme between Bathurst and Lithgow, told ABC Central West the snow had been welcomed in his village.

"We're just on about 1,200 metres here and it's about 1 degree [Celsius] at the moment, no wind," he said.

"And it is absolutely picturesque. It's beautiful.

"The whole district looks lovely at the moment."

Roads closed in Oberon, Barrington Tops

In the Blue Mountains, two roads remain closed in the Oberon area and drivers have been urged to exercise caution in the icy conditions.

Sharyn Gibbs, from Oberon's visitor information centre, said the snow was a drawcard for tourists.

"It started about 2:00am and so we've got a little bit of white covering at Oberon, so waking up was lovely to see it all snowy and white again," she said.

"People love the snow. We have people travel from inner Sydney to come up and see the snow, to build snowmen, to have snowball fights - the children love it."

Juanita McCarthy from National Parks and Wildlife Service, Barrington Tops, said roads had been closed and multiple accidents recorded due to ice on the road on Saturday.

Parks will review the road closures in that area on a daily basis, she said, with frosty conditions expected for the next three days.

"The precautions that we request that people undertake is to ensure that you take ample food and water," she said.

She also provided some tips for those looking to visit the snow.

"Hot drinks are very important," Ms McCarthy said, calling on people to not only rug up, but also take spare clothing in case the first set gets damp.
