Sydney has recorded its coldest morning of the year as temperatures dropped to 5.6 degrees Celsius in the city centre early on Sunday.

Parts of Western Sydney reached -1.2 degrees, the Bureau of Meteorology said, as the cold front which has brought snow to parts of NSW produced frost across a whole swathe of the state.

Forecaster Rob Taggart said despite morning frost, snow remained unlikely for Sunday.

"We'll be seeing another cold front pass through again on Thursday and Friday, which is expected to bring some more cold conditions," he said.

"That may bring some snowfall, particularly to places around Oberon."

He said higher parts of the Northern Tablelands could receive a light dusting although snow was unlikely for the Blue Mountains.

Morning frost was recorded on Sunday across the Central and Southern Tablelands, the Central West Slopes and Plains, the Riverina, and across Sydney's western suburbs.

Sydney has a predicted high of 16C with sunny weather forecast.

On Friday, there were widespread reports of snowfalls in NSW's alpine areas, with light falls in the Blue Mountains and parts of the Central West.

Forecasters also issued a heavy marine wind warning for NSW to last until Sunday night and a strong wind warning for the Byron, Coffs, Macquarie, Hunter, Illawarra and Bateman's coasts.

The Bureau of Meteorology said with icy weather set to continue across parts of NSW, drivers were being urged to be careful on slippery roads.
