The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is predicting above-average rainfall for Victoria's north over the next three months and a 50-50 chance of more rain in the south.

The bureau said it was likely there would be more rain than average in and around Mildura, Swan Hill, Echuca, Shepparton, Wangaratta and the far east.

It was still too hard to predict if it would be wet or dry in the south, although it was likely to be warmer than normal.

Climatologist Jonathan Pollock said the El Nino weather pattern that brings dry weather was expected to end in the next few weeks.

"We're starting to see that a La Nina might develop later in the year and that's what's helping to drive that above average rainfall pattern for northern parts of the state," he said.

"Currently we're still in El Nino but we're coming out of that quite quickly now and we think that will probably wrap up in a few weeks."

That wet weather is more likely in June and July.

Mr Pollock said the likelihood of having higher than average rainfall cuts out halfway down Victoria.

"The outlook is suggesting we're going to have above average high pressure system or above average pressure and generally that would sort of coincide with fine weather," he said.

"There's about as much chance of a wetter than average three months as there is a drier than average three months."
